How Can We Make Optical Quantum Technologies Work?
Prof. Dr. Tim Schröder
Integrated Quantum Photonics | Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
Quantum optical systems provide one of the most compelling and promising platforms for applications in quantum technologies. Photons do not interact with each other, and while losses give rise to challenges, decoherence mechanisms are less of an issue than in other quantum architectures. Specifically, integrated optical devices allow the implementation of protocols in quantum computing and simulation. Recent years have seen substantial progress toward realizing high-quality photon sources, detectors, and integrated circuits. While key building blocks have been demonstrated, challenges remain in reaching the next steps. This workshop explores some of the recent progress in this exciting field of research, as well as the bottlenecks that remain.
