Freie Universität Berlin
Founded: 1948, by students, professors, scholars, and scientists with support from the American Allied forces and Berlin politicians.
Motto: Veritas, Justitia, Libertas (Truth, Justice, Freedom)
Today, Freie Universität is one of Germany’s leading research universities. Its park-like campus in the Dahlem district and additional city locations are home to around 41,000 students from over 130 countries. The university offers more than 170 degree programs, with 550 professors on faculty.
Excellence Recognition
Freie Universität Berlin was awarded the distinction of “University of Excellence” in 2007 and 2012 through the Excellence Initiative for its institutional strategy:
Veritas – Justitia – Libertas. International Network University. It was the first Berlin university to earn this status.
