Jerry M. Chow
BM Fellow & CTO of Quantum-Centric Supercomputing
Jerry M. Chow an IBM Fellow and the Chief Technology Officer of Quantum-Centric Supercomputing at IBM. His technical expertise is in the area of design, measurement, and system integration of superconducting qubits.
Jerry Chow led the IBM Quantum team that developed and deployed IBM Quantum System Two, the first modular quantum computer and a major milestone toward quantum-centric supercomputing. He also helped deliver the best-performing quantum processors available today, including IBM Quantum Heron and IBM Quantum Nighthawk. These systems are available to users via IBM Quantum Platform and are housed in IBM’s quantum data centers or co-located with clients around the world.
Jerry Chow graduated magna cum laude with a BA in physics and MS in applied mathematics from Harvard University (2005) and a Ph.D in physics from Yale University (2010). He was awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship for his study at Yale, where he worked on implementing the first quantum processor with superconducting qubits.
He joined IBM Research as a Research Staff Member in 2010. In 2012 he was recognized in the Forbes 30 under 30 Technology list. Jerry Chow was the Primary Investigator for the IBM team on the IARPA Logical Qubits program from 2015-2020. In 2016 he co-led the IBM Quantum Experience project, with Jay Gambetta, IBM Fellow and Director of IBM Research, placing the first quantum computer in the cloud accessible to anyone.
