
Prof. Phil Macnaghten

Phil Macnaghten is a Professor in the Knowledge, Technology and Innovation (KTI) group at Wageningen University. His PhD is from Exeter, and he has held appointments at Lancaster, Durham, and Campinas before joining Wageningen in 2015. His research background is in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and sociology. He is the author of Contested Natures and a leading scholar on responsible innovation and the governance of techno-visionary science. He has developed in-depth qualitative methodologies for studying controversial technologies, and his work has directly shaped policy approaches to dialogue and public engagement. His current research explores responsible innovation, gene editing, and scientific controversy in an age of populism.
